日本の外資系企業に約10年勤めた後、2013年よりオーストラリアに移住しました。このサイトではこれまでのサラリーマン生活で得たエクセルの知識を投稿し、サイト訪問者の皆様に役に立つようでしたら幸いです。
エクセルはわかるまでは非常にとっつきにくいものです。時間の経過とともに少しずつ分かるようになるというものでもなく、コツをつかむと急に世界が広がっていくような感じでどんどん吸収していけます。コツがつかめるようになるまでにどのくらいかかるかは千差万別です。私はずっと経理畑でエクセルは毎日使うものですが、最初の5，6年くらいは本当に苦手意識があってただ文章を書いたり四則計算をするだけ、関数といえばSUM関数ぐらいしか理解していませんでした。本屋には何年も足を運びましたが、なかなか自分にとってわかりやすい本がなく、これだと思う本に出会えるまでに5，6年かかったわけです。その本を読んでからは、少しずつ関数や生産性を上げるための機能を覚えていき、今ではどの職場に行ってもこの人にはエクセルで敵わないと思う人に出会うことはなくなるくらいになりました。
エクセルは全世界のほとんどの会社で使われていますし、経理だけでなく人事や営業、購買、生産管理、職人や料理人など、どの部署でも使われているマストなツールです。また、経理だから使用頻度が高いとか営業だから使用頻度が低いとかというようなこともなく、多少の差はあってもどの部署にとってもエクセルは同じくらい重要なものになっています。人事は従業員データの管理や男女、年齢構成の分析などにエクセルを使いますし、購買や生産管理も在庫や納期の管理、職人や料理人も原価計算などそれぞれの部署で管理や分析にエクセルが必需品です。
なので、エクセルが持つ機能は無数にありますし、エクセルの世界は海のように広く、その全てを覚えることは不可能ですし、逆にそうする必要はありません。私の肌感覚ではエクセルマスターと呼ばれるような人でもせいぜいエクセルの全機能の5％とか10％を使用する、そんな感じじゃないでしょうか？なので、自分の仕事に必要な部分だけ理解できれば十分です。最初とっつきにくいのはわかりますが、コツがつかめれば、30分、1時間の作業が数分あるいは一瞬でてきてしまう魔法のようなツールです。それを身をもって体感した時、それまで苦手でしかなかったエクセルというツールが楽しくて仕様がなくなります。
私が何年も何度も本屋に通った末に良本に出会えたからわかったのですが、世に出ている無数のエクセルの本はどれも辞書的な構成でエクセルの関数や機能の説明をしているだけのものがほとんどで、じゃあそれを仕事でどう使えば良いのということが全く書かれていません。でも、サラリーマンが知りたいのは「こんな感じの表、シート（あるいはレポート、テーブル）を作りたい、そしてそれを自動化したいけど、どうすればできるか？」とかであるので、アルファベット順の索引があって例えばVLOOKUPのページに飛んだらただその関数の意味を説明しているだけというような辞書的な本は理解に苦しむだけですし、その人の仕事の手助けにならないわけです。
このサイトでは関数や機能を羅列してその説明をするのでなく、私が出会った良本と同じような感じでテーマを設けてそれをエクセルの関数や機能を使って成し遂げるにはどうするかという視点で説明していきたいと思います。例えば、「給与計算で休日の割増賃金の自動計算をするには」というテーマを設けその中でどういう関数や機能を駆使していくか、またその関数や機能がどういう働きをしているかなども説明していきます。その関数、機能の役割が実際に自分が会社で使用、作成したシートでどう働くかが理解できれば、その後は自分の力で他のエクセルファイルにも流用あるいは応用して使っていくことができるはずです。その繰り返しで引き出しを増やすことで、あなた自身がエクセルに強くなれる、その手助けにこのサイトがなれれば幸いです。

This blog and website is dedicated to introduce some of the Excel's technical skills I have gained through my work experience. A lot of people are struggling to understand Excel's functions and formulas however Excel is used almost all the company around the globe and is now an essential skill to all departments in a company whether it is Finance, Human Resources, Sales, Production or any other departments. The more you are familiar with Excel, the faster you can get your job done. Your every day's one hour job could be done in a few minutes or even in a second with Excel functions / formulas and you can use the time saved as result of it for your other tasks.
The key to understanding and using Excel efficiently is not to remember a lot of formulas or functions Excel provides with us. It is not an exam mate and it is about how you can reduce your time to get a part of your daily tasks done with Excel in your office. The most important thing is that you have an idea about the report, table etc you want to create and you have a passion about work more efficiently using Excel functions / formulas. A blank spreadsheet is like white canvas. You are like an artist who needs to know what they want to paint. Likewise if you do not have an idea, Excel will not do anything for you. You need to know what you want to do. Excel has millions of functions and formulas to meet everyone's request in the world. so you need to pick some up to get your task done however you do not have to remember everything which is impossible and you do not have to. Luckily in the world of internet, there are millions of website where Excel pros are explaining about various Excel functions. All you need to do is just google it whenever you want to do. I would say that even someone called such as Excel Master / Excel Guru / Excel God etc remembers only 5%, 10% of it.
There are millions of books on Excel that are published however in my experience, there are only a few good books that really help in according to my experience. Most of the books explains about the function or formula itself like dictionary and they don't explain how it can be used or what would the formula do in your spreadsheet at work. When a business person wants to know more about Excel, they normally have an idea about reports, tables etc in Excel spreadsheet and they want to know what functions or formulas would help reduce their time to get the job done, not the meaning of it.
I have set up this website to explain Excel functions and formula from that point of view. Every post will have a theme (e.g. how to automatically calculate weekend penalty rate for payroll calculation), instead of setting up index in an alphabetical order and then only explains the meaning of its function or formula in a relevant page which a lot of Excel books adopt.
